Saint Nicholas: On the Proper Method of Debate

It may be surprising to some that Saint Nicholas was not always known for his magical reindeer and communist gift-giving/child labor practices.

In fact, he was a respected bishop of the Christian Church in the 4th Century. So respected, in fact, that he was invited to the Council of Nicea, the council which left a lasting impact on the Christian faith for all time. At Nicea, the Biblical Canon was established, the Nicean Creed was written, and....

A certain man named Arius was vehemently defending his stance that Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, is not equal to God the Father. He spoke against the doctrine of the Trinity, saying that Jesus was a created being, and not fully divine.

Now, Nicholas could have showcased his stunning wit and gotten tangled into a principled debate on the nature of Christ. He could have held a nice, long debate on the Greek and Hebrew semantics of the passages involved.

Instead he stood up, faced the heretic, and punched him in the face.

Like a boss.

Because sometimes, it takes too long to find your politically correct multiracial opponent, and hold a long, politically correct debate with him or her, in which both sides walk away with the exact same opinion she or he held before.

Because sometimes, you just need to find your heretics and slap them in the face.

A New Song Anthology and a New Pseudonym

I would like to call your attention to a bit of an interesting project. Despite the fact that the majority of my audience probably already knows about this. If you are participating, then just consider this a reminder~

It is a short story anthology in the making, for Christian Teens, by Christian Teens. Anyone out there who fits this rather broad criteria, seriously consider helping us out! You can write a short story, 4500 words of less, about anything, really, as long as it has a Christian theme.  The deadline is April 1, 2015.

Check it out:  A New Song Anthology

If you happen to browse around the website, you'll notice a list of the editors. I am, in fact, one of these editors. You probably didn't see my name on the list. Or my pen name. Because, here, I am introducing a new pseudonym into the world!

...a pen name that actually sounds human. Hm.

Anyway. Friends, neighbors, countrymen! I present:

Justine Capgras

As an alias, she has a personality and writing style suspiciously similar to that of Saber Veritas. Perhaps she is a bit less of a sword fanatic. She is, of course, a Christian. Ah, for fun, shall we say she is 17 years old, and her birthday is Jan 21, 1998? She is very interested in psychology, and if you figure out why I gave her that name, there is a reward-

.......of the joy of superior knowledge. Seriously? You just have to Google it. What were you expecting.

Thanks for reading~ Go on, hit the comment button below. I know you want to. You are dying to. Your mind will never rest until you do. See it? Go ahead and hit the +1 button too. You know you want to. You know you want to.

Hope, not Peace

"Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace..."
                   "Imagine" - John Lennon

Everyone is obsessed with Peace.

It's easy enough to imagine everyone lying out in the flower fields at sunset, yes. It's actually quite simple to do, forget everything and listen to the breeze.

..for approximately an hour at the most. Humans thrive on conflict. Humans are greedy. Humans love power. You think you are different? Read about the Stockholm Prison Experiment. It's amazing how little we know about ourselves.

And the cause of all of this? The tragedy of the fallen human race? It's Sin.
They may say that children are a blank slate when it comes to hatred and war, and that it is all passed down by the parents. But how many times have we been given a blank slate and a fresh start? Creation, the flood, the fall and rise of every empire... if we could get it right, we would.

"Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today..."

Living for today? If only you knew... What havoc I would unleash upon this world.... And that's just me. Personally I have never yet found a good reason for an atheist NOT to rob the Treasury, murder their family and spend the rest of their days luxuriously in the jungles of Africa.

World... be glad God does exist.

It isn't today that we live for, nor yesterday or tomorrow. We don't need to find "Peace on Earth". Certainly, war is a horror that would be best undisturbed. But there are times when the Evil Foe will stir up trouble that threatens life and liberty, and there are some things which you must defend to your final breath. Then go on, and fight! Because we are not living for yesterday, today, or tomorrow, we live to glorify God. And then, we have the hope of an eternal rest, ten thousands of years, in the unity of believers.

Heavenly Peace.

Until then, onward, Christian soldiers.
